Applications for Bus Eireann School Transport Tickets for new pupils starting Primary or Post Primary school in Aug/Sept 2020 opened in February 2020.
The closing date for applications for new school bus tickets for the school year 2020/2021 was Friday, 24th April 2020.
Only pupils starting school will need to apply. Existing pupils who currently hold tickets will be contacted about payments in July 2020.
If you want to be sure that your child will get a seat on the school transport service for 2020/21, payments must be made by Friday 31st July.
Usually Late applications are not accepted but will not be guaranteed a seat.
Bus Fare Refunds for 2019/2020
Families who paid a fee for school transport in 2019/20 will receive a refund for the unused portion following the school closures to prevent the spread of Covid19.
How much will I be refunded?
In the case of primary students, schools were closed for 31% of the year. The refund will be €31.15 for 1 primary school child.
For secondary pupils , schools were closed for 26% of the year. The refund will be €92.22 for one child. School transport fees are capped per family, and so too are the refunds. More details on School Bus Fare Refunds
The refunds should be paid into bank accounts by July 17th 2020
Who is Eligible for School Transport?
- Primary children are eligible for transport if they live not less than 3.2 kms from and are attending their nearest national school .
- Post Primary children are eligible for transport where they reside not less than 4.8 kms from their nearest education centre .
Payments for the school year 2020/21 :
There are two payment options available for Bus Eireann School Transport Tickets for the 2020/2021 School Year:-
The full amount is due on or before the 31st July 2020 . After the payment is made, an Annual Ticket for the full school year will be issued.
Half of the amount can be paid by the 31st July 2020 and then a ticket for travel up to 20th December 2020 will be issued. The balance (50%) must be paid by 22nd November 2020. A further ticket, valid for travel up to the end of the school year will then be issued.
Making Payment – the simplest option is to go to the Bus eireann school transport login page and pay online at http://www.buseireann.ie
If it is not possible to make payment online, cheques/money orders should be made payable to Bus Éireann and posted to your local Bus Éireann School Transport Office.
Cost of School Transport
- For secondary school pupils, the charge is €350 per pupil or 2 payments of €175. (Max per family of €650) .
- For primary school buses, the fare is €100 per pupil or 2 payments of €50 (Max per family of €220).
- There is an exemption for Medical Card holders.
To pay for Bus Eireann School Bus Tickets online you need to have your Bus Eireann family ID and PIN; You can pay by VISA or MasterCard.
You can also enter the details of Medical Cards, if applicable. A medical card acts as a waiver to fees for the school transport.
