A report by an inter departmental group about the proposed property tax has been handed over to Minister Hogan this week . The details of the property tax report will not be made public until October – but one small detail was released this week – that is that the Revenue Commissioners will be responsible for collecting the new tax.
The predecessor of the property tax – the Household Charge – was the responsibility of local councils who also used the LGMA to help collect the charge.
A governmant spokesperson said “it was deemed to be the most efficient way to collect the property tax,”
