In the first week of December 2020 the Christmas Bonus will be paid to pensioners and most welfare claimants.
As usual There will also be some other changes to Social Welfare Christmas payment dates in 2020/2021 as outlined below.
- Post Offices and Banks will close at lunchtime on Thursday 24th December and will not reopen until Wednesday 30th December 2020.
- Post Offices and Banks will also be closed on 1st January 2021.
- Post Offices will be open on Saturday 2nd January until 1 p.m.
- There will be no mail delivery or collection from December 25th to Dec 29th 2020.
Double Payment Week
Note- All the dates given below are based on previous years when Christmas day also fell on a Friday. We believe the information below to be accurate, but the dates have NOT yet been confirmed by Social Welfare.
In the week beginning 14th December 2020 – there will be a double payment for all weekly paid recipients of welfare benefits and state pensions – as explained below.

Double Week 14th December.
People who are paid weekly will receive their normal payment plus an extra advance payment (for the following week) during the week beginning Monday 14th December 2020.
There will be no normal weekly payments in the week beginning Dec 21st – but some weekly payments due in the week commencing Dec 28th will be made early.

If you claim Jobseeker’s Allowance or Benefit on a casual basis, you will need to return your dockets for the signing weeks ending 17th /18th December, and 24/25 December on or before 11 December 2020.
Where dockets are provided by this date, two payments covering the signing weeks ending 17 and 24 December or 18 and 25 December will be paid into accounts on Friday, 18th December.
Normal payment arrangements for casual job seekers are expected to resume from Tuesday, 5th January 2021
If you have opted for 2 lump sums – the second lump sum will be paid as usual in the second week of January 2021. More about Fuel Allowance Payments
