Less than 6000 people have registered their septic tanks or waste treatment systems online since the registration scheme opened three weeks ago.
According to the 2011 census, there are almost 500,000 septic tanks and other on-site waste-water treatment systems in Ireland . Only 5014 had been registered online as of July 13th.
Everyone who has a septic tank or waste-water treatment system is required to register them before February 1st, 2013. Registration costs just €5 until September 28th when the fee rises to €50.
