Irish Water to Start Billing Businesses

Water charges for households are due to be suspended for at least 9 months in the next few weeks.  But Irish Water staff will not be idle  , because they will soon start sending out thousands of Water Bills to businesses.

Businesses have already been paying water charges to the local authorities for may years .   From July – the responsibility for billing and account administration for existing business customers will start to move from the Local Authorities to Irish Water .

Irish Water took over responsibility for providing  water services to business customers in January 2014 – but the local authorities continued to issue bills on behalf of Irish Water on an interim basis since then

Water charges for business customers and the billing frequency will remain the same under Irish Water .  Irish Water are due to start the process of billing transfer on a phased basis from mid-July, beginning with Meath and Monaghan County Councils.   Irish Water have said they will contact customers directly in each county to explain what is happening.

Unlike domestic water charges – If a business water services bill remains unpaid, Irish Water is empowered to disconnect the supply. (This was always the case with local authorities.)
