The current manager of Dublin City Council – John Tierney has been appointed as managing director of Irish Water, the State’s new water utility. He will step down as City Manager in April.
Bord Gáis announced today that Mr Tierney would join Irish Water from Dublin City Council where he has been city manager for the last six years.
Mr Tierney has worked in nine different local authorities across the country.
A recent audit of the Poolbeg Incinerator project criticised Dublin City Council for spiralling costs of over €80 million. The report from the local government auditor found that project management was “weak” and “not adequate”.
The City Manager John Tierney apologised for the shortcomings.
The role of Irish Water MD is expected to attract a salary of u pto €250,000 – and he will need to get things moving fast with water charges due to begin in 2014.
