About 350,000 people who use Eircom for their email service have been without email for the past 24 hours or more. Eircom today said that access to eircom.net email was in the process of being restored in a “controlled and phased manner” . Eircom decided to restrict access to it’s email service on Tuesday after they detected an “intrusion”. As a precaution, they have alerted the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner. Full access should be returned to all customers by this evening (Wednesday) .
Eircom say that there is no evidence to suggest any impact to customer data – but they strongly recommend that customers change their email account passwords today and on a regular basis.
