Motor Tax Rates in 2023

The rates of Car Tax in Ireland have not been changed for a few years There were no changes to motor tax rates in 2022- but in Budget 2021 there were some adjustments to motor tax on some cars.

In 2021 a new set of motor tax rates was introduced for WLTP cars registered in Ireland after 01/01/21.
(The WLTP – Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test measures fuel consumption and CO2 emissions and pollutant emissions.)

Some small changes to car tax rates were also made in 2021 for cars taxed on CO2 emissions that were NEDC tested.(This only applies to cars first registered in Ireland between July 2008 and the end of 2020).

(NEDC is New European Driving Cycle and was a European method for assessing a car’s fuel economy and emissions.)
