Alcohol Prices Expeced to Fall in Budget

Some good news is expeced in the Budget – …. well good news for drinkers, publicans and supermarkets that is.  Excise duty is expected to be cut by 20% – which will result in about 10c off the price of  a pint.

The drinks sector has repeatedly called on the Government to reduce excise rates on spirits to reduce the numbers of shoppers heading to the North.

Excise receipts from spirit sales have slumped by over 26pc in the past year, with bottles of spirits sometimes up to €10 cheaper over the border.
