Competition usually means better deals for consumers – so when Sky entered the Irish home phone and broadband market almost 3 years ago – it was hopefully good news .
The chance of unlimited data downloads and free calls to 20 countries including UK , USA attracted thousands of broadband customers away from Eircom (Eir) and Vodafone. You don’t have to be a Sky TV subscriber to sign up for their phone or broadband services. You can find out more at the Sky Ireland website
Sky say they have broadband coverage to about 90% of homes. (About the Same as Eir) They are are using the BT Ireland phone network which covers about 70% of homes – with the remainder covered by the Eircom network. They are offering speeds of “upto” 100MB – where Fibre is installed, everywhere else it is “upto” 24Mb . (The same as Eir and Vodafone) basically you will get the best speed that your phone line can take .
Sky Broadband and Phone Prices
Sky Broadband Unlimited with Free off peak calls – €45 per month for 12 months then €55.
Sky Broadband Unlimited with Free anytime calls – €52.50 per month for 12 months then €62.50.
Comparing Sky Broadband with Eir :- a bundle of unlimited broadband and off peak calls with Eir costs €62 a month (€45 for 6 months) . So over 1 year – Sky is €153 cheaper.
For unlimited broadband and anytime calls to landlines and mobiles – Eir charge €70 per month (discounted to €30 for the first 3 months) – so over 12 months , Sky will be €90 a month cheaper.
