School Transport 2020/2021 : Applying for Bus Eireann School Transport Tickets Online.
Applications for School Transport for new pupils starting Primary or Post Primary school in Aug/Sept 2020 have already opened (Feb 2020).
They usually open in March – but this year it has started earlier.
Only pupils starting school will need to apply;- existing pupils who currently hold tickets will be contacted about payments in July 2020.
The closing date for applications for new school bus tickets for the school year 2020/2021 will be Friday, 24th April 2020.
Late applications will be accepted but will not be guaranteed a seat.
Who is Eligible for School Transport?
- Primary children are eligible for transport if they live not less than 3.2 kms from and are attending their nearest national school .
- Post Primary children are eligible for transport where they reside not less than 4.8 kms from their nearest education centre .
Payments for the school year 2020/21 :
There are two payment options available for the 2020/2021 School Year:-
The full amount is due to be paid on or before the 26th July 2020 in which case an Annual Ticket for the full school year will be issued .
OR half of the amount due can be paid by the 26th July 2020 and a ticket valid for travel up to 20th December 2020 will be issued. The balance (50%) must then be paid by 22nd November 2020. A further ticket, valid for travel up to the end of the school year will then be issued.
Making Payment – the simplest option is to go to the Bus eireann school transport login page and pay online at http://www.buseireann.ie
If it is not possible to make payment online, cheques/money orders should be made payable to Bus Éireann and posted to your local Bus Éireann School Transport Office.
Cost of School Transport
- For secondary school pupils, the charge is €350 per pupil or 2 payments of €175. (Max per family of €650) .
- For primary school buses, the fare is €100 per pupil or 2 payments of €50 (Max per family of €220).
- There is an exemption for Medical Card holders.
To pay for Bus Eireann School Bus Tickets online you need to have your Bus Eireann family ID and PIN; You can pay by VISA or MasterCard.
You can also enter the details of Medical Cards, if applicable. A medical card acts as a waiver to fees for the school transport.
