Applying for Bus Eireann School Transport Tickets Online.
School Transport 2020/2021  :

Applications for School Transport for new pupils starting Primary or Post Primary school in Aug/Sept 2020  opened in February 2020.

Only pupils starting school will need to apply;-  existing pupils who currently hold tickets will be contacted about payments in July 2020.

The closing date for applications for new school bus tickets for the school year 2020/2021 was Friday, 24th April 2020. 

Usually Late applications are not accepted but will not be guaranteed a seat.

Bus Fare Refunds for 2019/2020

Minister for Education and Skills Joe McHugh  announced on April 24th that families will receive refunds for school transport fees for periods of schools closures from March to June/July. The refund payments will issue at the end of the school year once the exact period of closures is confirmed.

Who is Eligible for School Transport?

  • Primary children are eligible for transport if they live not less than 3.2 kms from and are attending their nearest national school .
  • Post Primary children are eligible for transport where they reside not less than 4.8 kms from  their nearest education centre .

Payments for the school year 2020/21  :

There are two payment options available for the 2020/2021 School Year:-

The full amount is due to be paid on or before the 26th July 2020 in which case an Annual Ticket for the full school year will be issued .

OR half of the amount due can be paid by the  26th July 2020 and a ticket valid for travel up to 20th December 2020 will be issued. The balance  (50%) must then be paid by 22nd November 2020. A further ticket, valid for travel up to the end of the school year will then be issued.

Making Payment –  the simplest option is to go to the Bus eireann school transport login page and pay online at http://www.buseireann.ie

If it is not possible to make payment online, cheques/money orders should be made payable to Bus Éireann and posted to your local Bus Éireann School Transport Office.

Cost of School Transport

  • For secondary school pupils, the charge is  €350 per pupil or 2 payments of €175. (Max per family of €650) .
  • For primary school buses, the fare is  €100 per pupil or 2 payments of €50 (Max per family of €220).
  • There is an exemption for Medical Card holders.

To pay for Bus Eireann School Bus Tickets online you need to have your Bus Eireann family ID and PIN;  You can pay by  VISA or MasterCard.
You can also enter the details of Medical Cards, if applicable. A  medical card acts as a waiver to fees for the school transport.

  1. My 2 children go to St aengus ns .bridgend and go with bus eireann. They both hold medical cards and I pay €200 for the tickets .

  2. I tried to fill in the form for my son. for the first time. It said eligible but when I got to the end of the form and I wasn’t allowed to fill in the section for the medical card number.

  3. Hello. I paid for my children bus ticket. One child it said ticket was issued. The other 2 are in primary and have always got the bus but it says no ticket has been issued? Is this the case that no decision has been made or they just didnt get one?? Family name Tahran
