From October 2018 , the CRU (Commission for Regulation of Utilities) has proposed that the PSO Levy will be decreased by 45% . The CRU propose that the levy is reduced to €4.26 a month from €7.69 (ex VAT)
This will result in an annual charge of €58.02 – reduced from €104.74 (inc VAT) . This will mean a reduction overall of €3.89 a month on everyone’s residential electricity bill
This PSO is imposed by the Government on all electricity customers regardless of their supplier and is shown as a separate item on electricity bills. It is designed to recover the additional costs associated with electricity from specified sources of generation, including sustainable, renewable and indigenous sources.
You can see here how much the PSO levy was in previous years
The cut in the PSO levy will be wiped out by price increases announced by most of the Electricity starting in August 2018 – details of those here.
