im totally lost! im a 21 year old and ive been on job seekers allowance for the last 2 years!!!!!!
December 10th, 2009 at 11:57there are absolutely no jobs! just wondering if anyone new wat pay i would be receiving from January 2010! would be grateful if you could reply asap!
Tina – my understanding is that existing claimants are only affected it they “unreasonably “refuse to take a job or a training course.
From the Welfare.ie site —-
“The dual rate of payment for 18 and 19 year olds which was introduced in April 2009, is being extended on the same basis to 20 and 21 year olds. Under the incentivised scheme those participating in a recognised education or training course will be eligible for the full rate of Jobseekers Allowance/Supplementary Welfare Allowance – €196 per week – otherwise they will only qualify for the reduced rate of €100. The rate for new Jobseekers Allowance claimants aged 22-24 inclusive will be €150 per week from January, unless they participate in education or training. This measure will only apply to new claimants. It will not affect those who have enough PRSI contributions to qualify for Jobseekers Benefit. It will also include the same exceptions as applied to 20-21, such as payment of the full rate for young people with dependent children.
Jobseekers under age 66 who refuse a job offer, work placement or offer of a course will have their Jobseekers Allowance/Supplementary Welfare Allowance personal rate reduced to €150 per week”

December 10th, 2009 at 13:12Im 25 and been on job seekers allowance for the past 5 months. I went to FAS and asked for a place on a course, they then registered me for the wrong course so I turned it down when I got a place.
Does this mean that my payments will be cut to €150?

December 10th, 2009 at 20:32It is probably best if you all call the special Budget helpline at the Department of Social and Family Affairs 1890 66 22 44.
The service will operate on Thursday 10 and Friday 11 December from 9am to9pm
December 10th, 2009 at 21:11Hey! just one question.
it says Jobseeker’s Allowance for new claimants,is this only for the people applying for job seekers benefit and there for “new” or for al that are claiming?
Thanks in advance.
Joe.
December 11th, 2009 at 04:03JOSEPH – As mentioned in previous replies – the cut is for new claims only.
December 11th, 2009 at 10:00hi. I’m confused. I’ve been receivin the job seekers allowance for a year now. I’m 21 and i receive about 200. Does that mean my income will be reduced to 100?. Please reply. Will really appreciate it. Thanks
December 12th, 2009 at 01:35Could someone please define what ‘new claimants’ means. So all claims made from “30/December?” are subject to the new rates, secondly. Say a 19 year old signs on in early December, will they get the higher rate when their 20 because they signed on before the 30th December?
December 12th, 2009 at 13:43New claimants means all new claims made after December 30th.
December 12th, 2009 at 13:50tina what do you mean what has ireland turned to? its people like you who are ruining it,your 21 and havent worked in 2 years? go to college or do a course like most honest people instead of sitting on your ass all day claiming money while the country goes under, shame on you
December 22nd, 2009 at 20:40well said michael, you took the words out of my mouth!
January 7th, 2010 at 16:11Hi .
I am 23 and have just been reduced to a 3 day week. I have just graduated from college with an honours degree and so have never claimed the dole before.
If I am a new claimant what am I entitled to for the two days I will not be working?? Is it half of the new claimant dole amount of €150? ie €75?
I’d really appreciate any responses!
January 11th, 2010 at 22:35Hi, I have just closed my JSA claim and am being paid by the CWO, they cut my payment to €100, I am not a new claimant, can they do this? How do I appeal?
January 25th, 2010 at 20:02Thanks,
Angela, if you signed on before the 30th of December you are not considered a new claimant as the changes set in Budget 2010 did not come into effect. There are no two ways about it.
February 6th, 2010 at 14:44Hi, I turned 20 on the 4th of January, since then I have been getting 196, but this week I only got 100, I went to the social welfare office, and they said that I should have never received the 196 as last years rules apply to me! I don’t understand this, could someone please help. I’m doing a course funded by FAS, anything they asked me to do, I have done, I just wanna know why they’ve reduced my payment! Please help!
February 7th, 2010 at 02:54Hi,i was working for 4 and a half years..im 21 now i started at 16 and qualified my trade of electrician at the start of last year..(just in time) then i got let go and was receiving job seeker’s benefit which ran out at the start of december..the welfare office messed up (or pushed aside) my claim to switch to allowance..ive got it sorted now this week and its in the process..am i going to get cut to 100 euro..??i had it applied to switch for in december..i cant beleive it if i am i paid my tax’s for 4 and a half years and im trying to find work..ive done my FAS im an electrician im not going to do some stupid waste of time course or work elsewhere..work should be coming in soon (fingers crossed)so i hope i can sign off soon…so bored at home..:( (i know what your going to say why don’t you go to australia my answer..no)
February 9th, 2010 at 07:19Ciara, if you signed on BEFORE the 30th of December 2009, and turned 20 on the 4th of January the rules set in the Budget 2009 and the mini budget apply to your application- because of this you should receive the higher adult rate upon your 20th birthday, in order to get the higher rate you DO NOT have to participate in a FAS course, because you are not considered a ‘new claimant’
Reject the €100 and appeal against it. Good luck
February 22nd, 2010 at 18:47Ciara, If you signed on after the 30th of December the new rules apply.
