Fair Deal – Nursing Home Support Scheme

The new  nursing home support scheme  rules -  “Fair Deal” are finally coming into force on October 27th 2009. We wrote about the details of the Fair Deal scheme here back in July.
The new financial support scheme rules have been in the pipeline for many months – but finally a date has been set for the implementation.
The HSE has been given €55 million to cover the cost of the scheme this year and its estimated the scheme will cost the State over €1 billion next year.

There have been calls by Age Action Ireland to change the funding arrangements already – because under the agreements reached between the nursing home owners and the National Treatment Purchase Fund the charge does not include the cost of basic care needs for non-medical card holders such as incontinence wear, physiotherapy, chiropody or specialised wheelchairs.
